Introduction

Pensions is a fast-changing area. There has been a major change in the nature of employer pension provision over the past few years and a whole raft of changes have been introduced by the Pensions Act 2004 and the Finance Act 2004. These include a single tax regime for pensions, a new proactive regulator, the Pension Protection Fund, new funding provisions, member-nominated trustees for all occupational schemes, a requirement to consult members before major changes are made and new rights for early leavers. This course starts from basics but goes on to deal with all the main developments in context. It concentrates on employer pension
provision and touches on personal pensions and state pensions too.

All three speakers will be present throughout the day and will expand
on the topics of most interest to delegates. They will be pleased to respond to delegates' questions and discussion is encouraged.

By the end of the course delegates should have a sound grasp of the fundamentals, an understanding of the recent changes and be able to appreciate future developments as they emerge.

The course is intended for all those who spend only part of their time on pensions, such as HR staff, finance managers, company secretaries and union officials, as well as for those working full time on pensions but who have limited formal training in the area.
